Want to add an accessory to your Halloween decor without spending a dime? Our witch's broom is made from items found in the garden. Several variations are possible, depending on what you have on hand!
What you need
- A branch with a diameter of 2 to 3 cm
- Inflorescences of perennial or annual ornamental grasses, dried flowers, corn cobs (we used goldenrod that grows in gardens and in the wild to give volume, then superimposed a few corn leaves)
- Iron wire or fishing line
- Jute rope
- Black spray paint (optional)
- Ribbon, spiders, flowers and leaves for decoration (optional)
How to make it
- Cut the branch to the desired length. If wanted, use spray paint to make it black.
- Cut the grasses or flowers to keep a stem 20 to 30 cm long. You can use only the inflorescences or include foliage. Choose a single variety of plant or use different ones in a mix.
- Using the wire or fishing line, tie the grasses a few centimetres from the end of the branch, so that they cover one end. This will allow your broom to rest on the wood without putting pressure on the plants.
- Use the jute rope to cover the wire or fishing line. Double or triple the thickness to add volume.
- Decorate your broom with ribbon, spiders, flowers and artificial leaves. Dried flowers can also be used, if you keep your decoration inside.
Mini version
In a mini version, the witch's broom can be a wonderful decoration on a shelf, alongside pumpkins and indoor plants. You can use adhesive tape to attach the plants to one end of the branch. Then decorate as you wish!
