Opt for a burgundy tablecloth (with matching napkins) and a platinum table runner. Either one can have intricate embroidery but avoid having it on both. Unless the two pieces are presented as a pair, the patterns are unlikely to complement each other perfectly. The result can be overloaded.
Place a dark green artificial garland over the runner. This will serve as the base for the centrepiece.
For an opulent effect, insert several branches of real pine, fir and cedar, dark red artificial berries and a few sprigs of eucalyptus. Arrange tall pewter-coloured candlesticks along the garland, leaving a space of 30 to 60 cm between each one, depending on the length of the table.
Between the candlesticks, place your main ornaments: trio of marbled Christmas balls, reindeer with refined lines, etc. Fill the space between the candlesticks and your main elements with secondary accessories: beaded garlands, smaller balls, pine cones, real or artificial apples or pears, oranges studded with cloves, dried or fresh flowers stuck in floral foam, velvet ribbons, rope lights...
Play with heights, shapes and textures, while respecting the theme you’ve chosen. The secondary accessories must add to the whole thing, without overloading it. The final result must be stunning.
TIP: Can't find candlesticks in the colour you're looking for, or you already have some but their shade doesn’t match the theme you’ve chosen? Use spray paint! Quick and easy to apply, it is available in a wide range of colours (several are metallic).
Spray paint can also be used to colour dried flowers, marble Christmas ornaments (check out our Facebook and Instagram pages!) and give a sophisticated look to simple wooden objects.
